Elopement at Hoyt Arboretum

Elopements are an intimate option for modern day couples looking to get married in a way that truly speaks to them. We are absolutely taken back by the majestic beauty of this forest elopement, read on as our couple shares why they chose to elope at Hoyt Arboretum and the symbolism of their ceremony.

The trees were so protective and gave us a magical haven for our ceremony. We are both spiritual (we say “woo” though), and we both really like tree spirits”

How has 2020, and the global pandemic and national unrest that this year has brought with it, affected their wedding plans? Here’s what they shared:

“It seems foreboding to get married in the midst of so many terrible things happening, but I also think all of this solidifies our commitment. We are in this shit together, no matter what scary and tragic things come drifting our way.

It has been hard to have hope about the future during this year and to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but to be initiated into this marriage and becoming a family is like putting all our bets on a future of salvation – not in a Christian sense, just like we ARE the life raft.”

About the Redwood Deck and Hoyt Arboretum:

“Redwood Deck is one of the most photogenic places in Hoyt Arboretum. Dramatically set among our towering redwood collection and overlooking Johnson Creek, the location provides a deep forest respite close to the city. The Redwood Deck is made of natural wood and features a sequoia tree protruding through the deck. The perfect scene for an intimate outdoor wedding ceremony, a wilderness setting for an intriguing picnic, or a compelling outdoor classroom, the Redwood Deck is the ideal venue for any outdoor function where the environment matters.”

“Founded in 1928 to conserve endangered species and educate the community, Hoyt Arboretum encompasses 190 ridge-top acres and 12 miles of hiking trails just minutes from downtown Portland. Home to 2,300 species of trees and shrubs from six continents, Hoyt Arboretum is a place of beauty and serenity no matter the season.”
